What is Exposed Aggregate?
Exposed aggregate concrete gives you a lot of design options where
different finishes, aggregates, colors,
etc., can be used. From just exposing “regular” concrete to using exotic aggregates, glass and other materials,
combined with colored concrete, staining, a wide array of looks can be created with this teqnique.
An exposed-aggregate surface is achieved by either adding a retarder to the concrete and then later “expose” the
aggregates in the concrete or by sandblast the concrete to lightly expose the aggregates in the concrete.
An exposed aggregate surface provides a durable surface that holds up to heavy traffic and the Northeast weather
conditions. It can be used for almost all flatwork applications such as pool deck, patio and walkways, driveways,
and plazas. Little maintenance is required other than resealing the surface every few years just like other
decorative concrete surfaces.
